A disturbing video posted on social media shows a young man brutally and repeatedly punching a helpless 75-year old man at a nursing home.
Hours after the video was released online, Detroit police arrested 20-year-old Jaydon Hayden, who is being held at the Detroit Detention on assault and battery charges.
The hard-to-watch graphic video, recorded on May 15, shows Hayden throwing dozens of punches at the back of the head and side of the face of a completely defenseless senior, whose face was heavily bloodied during the attack.
Police said the 75-year old victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
An additional video of the same perpetrator abusing another senior also surfaced online. In that video, Hayden is seen viciously punching an elderly person multiple times in the face while they are asleep. The victim appears to be knocked unconscious as a result.
Many commentators online expressed their outrage. Some also questioned why mainstream media outlets such as CNN have turned a blind eye and have yet to report on this case.
The horrific video even caught President Donald Trump’s attention. On Thursday he tweeted: “Is this even possible to believe? Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?”

Twitter user @DuFraineJames mocked CNN by commenting:
“Maybe CNN will cover it.. I can see the headline now: Elderly white supremacists use their heads and faces to savagely beat the fists of an unarmed black man.. it just highlights the danger POC face in the Trump era.”
User @ledzepfan400 also mocked the mainstream media.
“Instead CNN and MSNBC will dedicate the entire evening to Trump not wearing a mask.”
The Westwood Nursing Home in northwest Detroit told police they had not seen the video prior to Hayden’s arrest.
According to attorney Saif Kasmikha, “Westwood has been cooperating with the police and will continue to do so. The safety, health, and well-being of our residents remains a top priority of Westwood. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
Detroit Police Department (DPD) Chief James Craig said they are still investigating the case. The DPD did not mention charging Hayden with a hate crime.
A YouTube video alleged to be Hayden’s, shows him talking about black slavery and spewing what some would call “Black Supremacist” ideologies by referring to the black race as the “chosen race” that was “supposed to rule the earth.”
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services released a statement on Friday saying “the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) was deeply disturbed” by the video.
They also clarified that Hayden was not an MDHHS employee, and “the attack did not occur at a department facility.”
“MDHHS’s Adult Protective Services, which takes very seriously its duty to protect vulnerable adults from abuse, also gathered pertinent information resulting in identifying and locating the perpetrator and provided the information to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and law enforcement, which led to the arrest,” the statement said.
