President Trump hits back at Colin Powell for criticizing him and for saying he would vote for Joe Biden.

Former U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor, Colin Powell, appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper, where he criticized president Trump for not being “an effective president” and for lying “all the time.”

Powell said that he was happy to hear former generals, admirals and diplomats criticize Trump for his suggestion of deploying the military to bring order in areas affected by rioters and looters during the George Floyd protests.

“We have a Constitution. And we have to follow that Constitution. And the President has drifted away from it,” Powell said, adding that he was “so proud what these generals and admirals have done.”

The 83-year old retired general said he evaluated Trump’s performance four years ago during the 2016 campaign and concluded that he could not vote for him based on the things he said, citing the “birther movement” as an example, where Trump questioned whether Obama was born in the U.S.

Powell said he was also “deeply trouble” at the way Trump was “insulting everybody” including fellow politicians, and anyone “who dared speaking against him,” which he concluded was “dangerous for our democracy” and “dangerous four our country.”

The former Republican official disclosed that he did not vote for Trump in 2016 and will not vote for him this year either.

Powell’s choice for president is Joe Biden.

“I’m very close to Joe Biden on a social matter and on a political matter. I worked with him for 35, 40 years, and he is now the candidate and I will be voting for him,” Powell said.

In response, Trump countered with his own criticism of Powell with a couple of tweets:

“Colin Powell, a real stiff who was very responsible for getting us into the disastrous Middle East Wars, just announced he will be voting for another stiff, Sleepy Joe Biden. Didn’t Powell say that Iraq had “weapons of mass destruction?” They didn’t, but off we went to WAR!”

“Somebody please tell highly overrated Colin Powell that I will have gotten almost 300 Federal Judges approved (a record), Two Great Supreme Court Justices, rebuilt our once depleted Military, Choice for Vets, Biggest Ever Tax & Regulation Cuts, Saved Healthcare & 2A, & much more!”
